1. "F-Body" Pan (1998–2002 Camaro/Firebird)
This is widely considered the "gold standard" for engine swaps into older muscle cars because it has a low profile and provides excellent steering rack clearance.

Current GM Part Number: 12628771

Replaces Old Part Number: 12558899

Sump Style: Rear Sump (Stepped)

Capacity: ~5.5 Quarts

Engine Application: LS1

Fitment Notes: Shallow front section makes it ideal for clearing crossmembers in 60s/70s GM muscle cars (Camaros, Chevelles, Novas).

2. "Muscle Car" / Hummer H3 Pan (LH8)
Often marketed by GM Performance as the "Muscle Car Oil Pan Kit," this originally came on the Hummer H3 Alpha (5.3L V8).

Current GM Part Number: 12624621

Replaces Old Part Number: 12614821

Sump Style: Rear Sump

Capacity: ~5.5 Quarts

Engine Application: LH8 (5.3L)

Fitment Notes: This pan clears many chassis crossmembers but the sump is very deep. It often hangs below the frame rails on lowered cars, putting it at risk of impact damage.

3. Cadillac CTS-V Pan (Gen 1 & 2)
A popular alternative when the F-Body pan is unavailable or too expensive. It is shorter longitudinally than the truck pans but still holds good capacity.

Current GM Part Number: 12631828

Replaces Old Part Number: 12605814, 12628451

Sump Style: Rear Sump

Capacity: ~6.0 Quarts

Engine Application: LS6, LS2, LSA

Fitment Notes: It hangs slightly lower than the F-body pan but usually higher than the Truck/Hummer pans.

4. Truck / SUV Pan (Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Yukon)
The most common pan you will find in junkyards (LQ4/LQ9/LM7/LY6).

Current GM Part Number: 12640746 (Standard wet sump)

Replaces Old Part Number: 12628772, 12579273

Sump Style: Deep Rear Sump

Capacity: ~6.0 Quarts

Engine Application: Vortec 4800, 5300, 6000, 6200

Fitment Notes: The sump is very deep to accommodate high-angle truck use. It almost never fits into a car chassis without cutting the bottom or dragging on the ground.

5. GTO / Holden Pan (Front Sump)
Unique among LS pans, this is a front sump design, necessitated by the steering rack location on the Holden Monaro/Pontiac GTO chassis.

Current GM Part Number: 12599397 (2005+ w/ relief valve) or 12581209 (Early)

Sump Style: Front Sump

Capacity: ~6.0 Quarts

Engine Application: LS1, LS2

Fitment Notes: Essential for swaps into chassis that require a front sump (like some Nissan S-chassis, early Ford Mustangs, or BMW E30s).

6. C6 Corvette Pan (Wet Sump)
Standard on base model C6 Corvettes (LS2 and LS3).

Current GM Part Number: 12624617

Sump Style: Rear Sump (Gullwing/Batwing style internal baffling)

Capacity: ~5.5 Quarts

Fitment Notes: Wider sump area than F-body. Good for cornering but the "wings" can interfere with headers or frame rails in tight swap chassis.

7. C5 Corvette "Batwing" Pan
The famous two-piece looking pan from the C5 generation.

Part Number: 12561828 (1997-2004)

Sump Style: Rear Sump (Extreme Gullwing)

Fitment Notes: Designed for high-G cornering. The massive side "wings" make it very difficult to fit in anything other than a Corvette or a chassis with wide open frame rails.

8. 5th Gen Camaro / G8 / Chevy SS Pan
Found on the 2010–2015 Camaro SS and the Pontiac G8/Chevy SS sedans.

Current GM Part Number: 12640748

Replaces Old Part Number: 12624619

Sump Style: Rear Sump

Capacity: ~8.0 Quarts (Huge capacity)

Fitment Notes: Very large oil capacity. The front of the pan is quite deep compared to the F-body pan, which can cause interference with steering linkage on older cars.

9. LS7 / LS9 Dry Sump Pan
These are technically not just "pans" but part of a semi-dry sump system.

Part Number: 12627845 (LS7) / 12627846 (LS9)

Notes: Requires external oil tank and lines. The crank snout is also longer on these engines to drive the larger oil pump.
